In 2021, the number of outbound tourists in Saudi Arabia increased to over eight million travelers, a significant rise from the previous year's five million tourists, which was impacted by the COVID-19 outbreak. The majority of outbound trips were made for the purpose of visiting family and friends. According to data published by the Saudi Central Bank, overall tourism spending in Saudi Arabia, including residents and foreigners, increased by 52 percent in 2021 to SR95.6 billion ($25.5 billion) from SR63.4 billion in the previous year. This significant growth in tourism spending highlights the increasing popularity of Saudi Arabia as a tourist destination.
